Pregnancy Massage
Massage while pregnant is a fantastic experience. It aids a woman to relax, supports her body during a period of great physical change and helps prepare the whole body for birth.
Pregnancy can put a strain on the body and massage can help to minimise / relieve aches and pains in the back sciatic nerve pain, relieves leg cramps, helps to improve circulation and ease water retention – oedema and also boosts energy levels.
Nearer the end of the pregnancy lots of women find it important to be able to relax and enjoy the last few weeks to prepare both mentally and physically, so massage provides that special time to allow the expectant mother to unwind and aid in focusing on the body and to connect with their baby.
Your baby can benefit too as research shows that the unborn baby can be affected by the mothers stress levels, so massage has an indirect relaxing effect on the baby as the mother releases her ‘feel good hormones’ (oxytoxcin and prolactin) as a result of skin stimulation. Basically the more relaxed and calm the mother feels during pregnancy, the more relaxed her pregnancy and birth is likely to be.
